Is the plumbing in your home ready for Spring? Linn Benton Plumbing is here to help! Here are a few good tips for preventative maintenance to make sure your plumbing stays in good shape with the changing of the seasons.

CHECK FOR WINTER DAMAGE:

Winter can cause a lot of stress on your plumbing and home, and the changing temperatures around this time of year can make problems worse. Check Pipes for any cracks or damage caused by the winter months, then call your plumber and fix them before they have a chance to get worse.

This is also important to look for in sprinkler systems and other faucets that don’t get used in the winter and are being turned on for the first time in a few months. It’s easy to forget about these extra pipes! A good way to spot leakage in these sort of lines is to look for unusually wet spots in the yard.

MAKE SURE NOTHING IS CLOGGED:

You should be doing this consistently, but the changing of the seasons is a good reminder. Go ahead and make sure all your drains are working properly. You can tell if your sink is draining well by filling up the sink with water and then pulling the plug. Does the water level go down quickly? If so your sink is draining well. If not then your drain line is restricted and will need to be cleaned out with a drain snake. We don’t recommend using drain cleaners because the chemicals in them can damage your drain pipes. Cleaning drains and clogs early can prevent more major damage in the future.

CHECK YOUR WATER HEATER:

You probably turned up you water heater temperature for the colder months. Now that it’s warmer out, you don’t need that extra heat. Turn down the heater to help it run more efficiently! This is a good time to check your water heater for any damage such as corrosion, rust, cracks, or leaks. If you see anything suspicious, contact your plumber and have them take a look at it.

Make sure everything is in great shape this spring so you can enjoy your summer stress free! This is the time for preventive maintenance. If you need any help with anything or just need a second opinion on some possible problem with your plumbing, call Linn Benton Plumbing.
